From the Rack or Box?

When any of you buy firearms, do you take the one from the rack or showcase, or do you ask for an unhandled one in a box? Is it unreasonable to ask for one new in the box? I've gotten attuide from gun shop workers for this, but if I'm going to fork over hundreds of dollars, I want the gun that has not been handled by every customer in the store. Am I wrong to ask for this?

You are the customer. You can ask for anything you want.

There is no reason to feel bad about asking for a NIB gun if your paying a NIB price. As a customer dont ever let anybody give you an attiude.

I've never had a dealer offer anything BUT a new one, assuming we're buying a new gun to begin with.

The display gun is always put back and the sales clerk goes and gets a new one. Why would you accept the one that gets handled and dry-fired all day, and pay full price for it? (Now, buying it as a used gun, might be a different story).

You wouldn't pay full price for a display TV, for example.

Don't pay full price for the display gun.

I bought the one that he had loaded and under the cash drawer. Another customer had just bought his personal carry from under the drawer and just that morning he had taken mine from the box, to replace his. I had no problems with buying it. It was new, and he simpley put it back in the box and I took it home. I knew it was only handled by him and not every customer in the county.

I would not pay full price for a gun in the case, you get all the dorks who like to slam the slide shut using the release and dryfiring it and picking their nose and touching it, no thanks gimme the one in back or order another. That being said I have never bought a new gun

Nump ... I personally buy the gun that feels right after giving it the once over.

Go over it working the action , slide , inspect the barrel , look for tool marks , scracthes , inproper fit anywhere , finish , check lock up , magazine fit and on and on.

Doesn't matter if it's one in the case or one from the backroom that just got off the truck. If it aint right , it aint right.

First I look at the ones in the case ... usually I find scratches or some other problem right off and ask for a different one from the back ... if they don't have one I pass. If they do I'll check that one over and as many others that they have till I find the one that feels right to me. Sometimes it's the very first one. Sometimes I go through a few before I fight the one that's just right. Sometimes I look at a bunch and just pass altogether.

You're spending a few $100-1000's on a firearm. You should be comfortable with it and it should be what you want.

NEVER feel bad asking to see new ones if necessary ... they'll sell the ones in the case too , and if they're bad enough they'll send em back.

I never had that happen, unless your buying used you always get a NIB from whereever and not the one in the display case.

The face posted by urbanassault nails the case. I would insist on NIB, not display. I would want a gun that has not been handled by goobers.
