Well, I found one at an auction site for $280 in VG condition. Not a lot of other info, alas. bbl length unknown, stock has been professionally adjusted to fit yutes or wimminfolk (I asked specific dimensions on bbl and stock, have yet to get a reply. There is also something about a scope on the receiver, but no elaboration.

Assuming everything is straight and legit on this gun, is this a good ballpark price?

Thanks,
Mike

mods to the stock, maybe the receiver? barrel?
"VG" might mean "very gullible"
sometimes "professionally adjusted" means a baboon with power tools had a go at it.
The price would be reasonable for VG without the "professional" mods

:D

Yeah, I already requested a photo, for precisely the reasons you mentioned.

Hey, I'm a professional cop, and I own a Sawz-all. I can hack off the rear end of a shotgun stock and say it's "professionally altered" as well. :D

Thanks,
Mike

the bbl is 28" (standard, I expect). This, naturally, is about 10" longer than I want. He is also gonna send me pics (I want to see this 'professional alteration' myself).

Anyone know how hard it would be to find a 18" (or something in the neighborhood) bbl for a 16g Ithaca 37? Or should I *gasp* cut it?

Thanks,
Mike

It is usually not too hard to cut a shotgun barrel. If it has a rib, it becomes more difficult. I have cut them with hacksaws and tubing cutters. The main thing is to allow a little extra length so you can square off the end and lightly crown the barrel.
I am a professional electrician so all my cuts have been made professionally.

$280 is pretty high for a 16 ga. Ithaca 37. Pawn shops around here usually have them for anywhere from $150 up to $250. It would have to be in REALLY great shape to be worth $280.
