SIGArms Academy just cancelled their Dec Home Defense Shotgun class (http://www.sigarms.com/academy/courses/cit-detail.asp?cid=58). I've tried to sign up for it 3 times this year but it keeps getting filled or cancelled on me.

I did an excellent 3 day Defensive Shotgun 1 with Randy Cain (http://www.guntactics.com/page5.htm) and see a good 3 day Advanced Shotgun with Jim Crews (www.marksmans.com) down in FL February 2003, but I'm looking for that kind of training you can't get in a flat outdoor range.

Any other good options that teach how to use a shotgun inside my home? Yeah, I'd always sit tight and call the cops if possible, but when not, some practical instruction on how to move and shoot indoors would be excellent.

Having taught this sort of training you're pretty much going to need to go to a facility that has a shoot house - if you want to go "Live" as in live fire.

The drawback to that is...outside of a few shooting schools...not many non-police or military facilities have shoot houses.

The good news though, is you can practice your response(s) and work "dry" through your house to your hearts content. Caveat though, you need to get training on the proper techniques for working inside a structure first.

And, I wholeheartedly recommend Randy Cain. He's one of the real good traveling instructors.

If you want to become a good shotgun-shooter then I suggest you go to the store and buy yourself a shotgun.
Then as with everthing else practice makes perfect. For example put the shotgun, without the bolt body of course by your telephone and then after every phonecall you pick up the gun and make about 10-20 set-ups!!
After a while this comes without thinking when shooting clay doves.

Join an organisation!

The best of luck:D

I would check out Insights's General Defensive Shotgun (3 days). I haven't taken it -- but I have taken their General Defensive Rifle class, which involves room clearing and night shooting. Both skills are relevant to home defense shotgun training.

They come to Harrisburg, PA occasionally so you wouldn't have to ship all the way to Washington state. Website at insightstraining.com

BTW I meant to say the range they "rent" for their Harrisburg, PA has two shoothouses, including one 360 degree shoothouse. I don't know whether their other ranges (including the home range in Washington) has such facilities. We did several houseclearing runs (dry and live) in GDR.

Tori... when you said, "...I suggest you go to the store and buy yourself a shotgun," did you mean to possibly be a bit insulting to a guy who had already said, "... I did an excellent 3 day Defensive Shotgun 1 with Randy Cain"?
