I accidentally damaged the factory magazine tube on my Mossberg 500A so I have to buy another one. While looking on Brownells.com, I noticed that they sell a factory 5-round magazine tube (what my 500 has) and they also sell an 8-shot magazine tube.

Can someone please explain to me how an 8-shot tube will fit on my gun. I don't see how it would work unless I could somehow move the lug on the bottom of my barrel where the screw goes into the end of the magazine tube.

Thanks

You need a barrel made for the 8 shot tube. Search on "Mossberg barrel" and you should see the 8 shot barrels.

FWIW, perhaps you could send it back to Mossberg along with your shotty for an exchange to the 7 shot tube and barrel. According to Patrick Sweeney in "Gunsmithing Shotguns," the factory provides such services for a small -albeit unmentioned- fee.

Be as it may, good luck on your "quest!"

Due to the way that the barrels attach to the Mossys, mag tubes are not interchangeable. Visit Mossberg's website, and take a look at the 6 vs 8 round shotguns.
