Hi,

I am looking for a mainspring housing to fit a Kimber Compact that has an integral lanyard loop. I have seen the style that has the loop in the form of a pin over a slot milled lengthwise into the end of the standard MSH so there is nothing projecting. Is there anywhere I can get one of these?

Thanks,

Ben :D

Are you describing the following?

If so it's made by Guncrafters Industries and is sold by Brownells (http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/Store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=21493&title=1911+AUTO+LANYARD+MAINSPRING+HOUSING) for $59.95.

Unfortunately I think it's available only for 1911s with full size frames (Government model and Commander). Your Kimber Compact has an Officers model frame so the Guncrafter's mainspring housing won't work. You might want to see if one of the good 1911 pistolsmiths would make one for you. I doubt if it would cost an arm and a leg. Try Ted Yost, Don Williams, Marc Morganti, or one of the others with a national reputation. In fact you might want to post a message asking about it in their own forum, Louderthanwords (http://www.louderthanwords.us).

It would be easy to make one from a regular mainspring housing, however, your stock Kimber mainspring housing is plastic. You will need to obtain a metal one.

I added a lanyard loop on my Ultra CDP II in this way. It was a DIY but real clean and strong.

Smith & Alexander offers USGI style lanyard loops as a $10 option on their mainspring housings. They have Officer's size mainspring housings.

That is exactly the kind of mainspring housing I've been looking for. Now I have to buy 2, and then there's other goodies in the Brownells catalog I've been meaning to order....
