Why are stainless rifles offered with synthetic or wood stocks, but all stainless/nickel plated shotguns are only offered with synthetic stocks?
I'm thinking about getting a 870 Marine Magnum or a Benelli Nova H2O, but I don't like the way the synthetic stock feels on my 11-87.

I've noticed that too.
Maybe it's assumed you're buying the SS or nickel for rust resistance in moist climates and the makers assume you would likewise not want a wooden stock in moist areas...? Not sure though.

That is exactly the reason, leadcounsel. If you want an all-weather gun, you should have an all-weather stock for it. Wood will absorb moisture and warp, even laminated stocks will - but to a lesser degree.

Black looks better with nickel than wood
