Sup fellas, I'm a college student from San Diego who is currently studying abroad in Istanbul, Turkey. I'm staying with a relative who isnt really knowledgable about pistols, but wants to buy one soon for protection in the mountains (he's going camping in a few weeks) so I gave him a little advice on what to look for for what he needs, and he said he was going to go with a Sarsilmaz  and being from cali, i had no idea what that was. so it turns out they have some interesting firearms. I hope someone here can comment on the quality of thier pistols, but my main question is this

on the DOJ website regarding CA legal pistols, it says this:
Effective January 1, 2001, no handgun may be manufactured within California, imported into California for sale, lent, given, kept for sale, or offered/exposed for sale unless that handgun model has passed firing, safety, and drop tests and is certified for sale in California by the Department of Justice. Private party transfers, curio/relic handguns, certain single-action revolvers, and pawn/consignment returns are exempt from this requirement.

to me, it sounds like it would be legal for my cousin to buy a gun here, then give/sell it to me and send it to an FTF in cali.
if so, that would be ...pretty neat to say the least as i havent even heard of anyone who owns one of these:

and my girlfriend would go nuts if she got one of these

thanks in advance for the legal help!

Wow, pretty in pink.

I'm pretty sure that there is a published list of the "eligible" weapons that have passed those stupid tests, and if a weapon isn't on the list, it won't be legal.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

There is no shortage of incorrect legal information regarding California and firearms. Heres the deal. In order to get a handgun that is not on the approved for sale list you have two options. First, you can find someone in the state that already owns one and then do a private party transfer.

The second option is to qualify under the "personal handgun importer" exception. Basically you are an out of state resident moving to california. If you qualify, you can bring in any type of handgun you want providing it does not have a threaded barrel. Also no 10 round mags allowed regardless. Once you bring in the gun you need to register it and pay the extortion money to the state of california.

Rifles do not need to be registered, however you cannot bring in any thing that qualifies as an assault weapon.

Thus to answer your question, unless your cousin decides to move to cali, or you somehow have become a resident of another country then it aint gonna fly.

I am impressed he is getting a pistol in Turkey. I had thought smoothbores only for normal citizens.

What he said. You won't be able to buy it from your cousin.

That pink bodied 9mm is RIDICULOUS.

And to answer your question: NOPE.

Those are CZ clones. Why not just buy a CZ or clone that is California approved.

awww man. thanks for the help though guys.

since its a CZ clone (i already have a cz) would i be able to just bring home a slide? would it fit into a CZ frame? or did you mean they're cz clones in respect to grip angle, internal parts, etc.
or could i bring back just a frame? (the pink thing?)

could that be legal?

In this case, the frame IS the firearm (the controlled portion).

You can bring back the slide because that is not considered a firearm. I don't know if it will fit into a CZ frame though. You can't bring back a frame because that is considered the firearm.
