I have looked at various scopes for my 870 but I would like to hear real-world experiences before I buy. I am looking to spend about $100. The scope will be used with 3.5 inch slugs(and likely turkey loads) so it needs to be solid. Also it needs a long eye relife becasue I hate getting hit in the face.

I don't know if you will be able to find a quality scope for $100 dollars. My opinion is you get what you pay for. I have a Leupold 2 X 4 fixed compact on my shotgun. It has held up exceptionally well and Leupold has a great warranty and Customer Service. Look to spend close to $300 though.

For around $175, the Burris Fullfield II, 1.75-5x20mm (24mm??) is a pretty nice scope, and has long eye relief when cranked down.

But $175 ain't $100. Hmmm, I dunno - if it's for turkey only then I'd put a red dot on it - but you said slugs, so then it's for deer too, correct? I dunno what to tell you, cept maybe a Bushnell Trophy 1.5-4x32mm - I think they are right at $100. Not a bad scope, but not what I'd call a very good one either.

Simmons 4X32 shotgun scopes work great and are reasonably priced with about a 5 inch eye relief and truplex reticle:

Simmons 1.5x5

So good, the AR15 wears one on my mid range 3 gun setup.

I've been using a Leupold 1 x 4 Variable shotgun scope with a large reticle on my 870 Special Purpose 12 Ga. with cantilever scope base and fully-rifled bore for many years. With Rem. 2 3/4" Sabot Copper Solids, and now Sabot Core-Lokts, I've taken whitetails from 10 yards to over 100 yards. This has been a very accurate & reliable combination for me. I keep the scope set at 1 power unless I need more for a long shot. I hunt from a tree stand, but when the action is really slow, I'll sneak hunt alone. Can't comment on other brands, but you would not be disappointed by the Leupold 1 x 4.

Sorry. It's the non-illuminated Pro Diamond. I was able to engage 6 inch steel out to 300 yards last weekend with that scope easily.

Go up on Ebay, or similar site. Find you a Tasco Bantum. These can be found in 2 1/2 power & 4 power. I have 3 of the 2 1/2 powers. They have good crosshairs for slugs, and a circle in the center for the center of shot when using shotshells. You can pick one of these up for less than $50.00 and I bet you'll never sell it as long as you own a shotgun

My old man has an 870 with a tasco 3-9 x 40, with open sights. It works great for longer shots with a slug barrel, or closer ones with the open sights. He had his drilled and tapped but you can use the two pins to mount one also.

Well, here is a Nikon "ProStaff", for less than $100.00. There are a lot to select from.

I have this one on a Remington 870 and it works well for me. I did not want to spend a lot on a gun that I only use for a short time but I wanted something with long eye relief and low to medium magnification.
