I was looking at some NEF shotties, but I decided to hold out for a Mossberg combo with the 28 inch vent rib barrel and the 18.5 inch security barrel. Im going with the 12 guage. Will that 28 inch barrel be pretty good for bunny blasting? I plan on using it for squirells, winged things and rabbits. And the 18 incher will be for fun/security I guess.
What do yall think?
thanks,

I bought a 500 combo used and am very happy with it. Mine came with 181/2 and 28in barrels. Then you have both a home defense gun and a bird gun. If you want another barrel length there are many to choose from on ebay.

Yep good choice. I used mine heavily for 10 years and it still functioned fine. That 28" barrel probably has a modified choke. Mine did. I used it for all kinds of stuff. grouse, ducks, racoons, etc. Thats a good gun the mossberg 500. ;)

Mine is an old one I picked up for a hundred bucks and it's still shooting fine.Never saw one that didn't work when you wanted it to.
Are the chokes interchangable on the one you're looking at or is it a fixed choke barrel?

I have 3 mossbergs a 835 with camo synthetic furniture,a 500 20 gauge, and a 500 12 ga with a 4x scope and smoothie slug barrel, haven't had any problems with either.in my opinion, for a brand of hunting shotgun, they can't be beat, yeah they dont have the nice cosmetic looks of other brands, but for staight functioning and toughness they are pert-nere first class.:D

Well the local Big 5 put the Mossberg combo 12 guage on sale for $200 today so... I went and put some money down. I can't wait till my next pay check so I can go shoot that thing, maybe a few birds too.

This is my Mossberg 500 "Combo" I bought new last year with the 28" Modified Vented Rib barrel attached. It also came with the 18" Cylinder barrel. I got the whole deal out the door for $218.00 from a local sporting goods chain, (Big 5 also). It makes a great "house gun" for my wife. (I work nights). I just keep it full of trap loads. Bill T.

Good deal, especially with choke tubes in the long barrel. That's the best possible approach for the one- shotgun household, it lets you do about everything you can do/need to do with a shotgun.
Now, go try to wear it out!

Where can the combo be purchased? I've tried all of the Dicks and Gander Mts, nobody has them.
