I'd like to try and build my own cleaning/gunsmithing cradle. Ideally, the cradle would be adjustable enough so that I could hold rifles, shotguns, or handguns. Also ideally, the plans would be on-line (and free). While I'm sure that I could eventually come up with something, I would love to save the trial and error that would surely accompany my own invention. Anybody have any links that could help?

In the absence of on-line plans, on-line photographs would be a good start.

typing "rifle cleaning cradle" gets you a bunch of images in any online image search

You might want to try Tipton's "Best" Gun vise. It appears adjustable and might be something like what you're looking for. Good luck!

I did some searching and was unable to find anything like I was thinking about. The Tipton cradle is very nice and it comes close in function. I'd like to try making my own instead of buying one from a store.
