There's a lot of recoil associated with sighting in a slug gun off the bench and I'm wondering how effective Caldwell's "Lead Sled" is in curbing some of this punishment. A friend is worried that the Lead Sled might cause excessive stress to the shotgun because it is constrained in a fixed position instead of allowing the shoulder to "give", thus bleeding off some of the recoil energy. Finally, my local shop is selling the original Lead Sled for $79.99 and the "improved" Lead Sled II for $179.99. Is the improved model worth the extra $100.00? Thanks for any opinions.

I don't know the difference between the different sleds but I do know that sighting in a .338 on that thing sure was nice. The sled still slides it's just simple physics because the lead sled has more weight it will not move as far when the gun kicks. I certainly did not get the impression that it would hurt the gun.
