HI i was going to buy a shotgun I wanted to buy a remington 1100 but my dad is going to give me one of his five that he has in a few months when he drives down here. In the mean time I went by sportsmanwarehouse and saw a stoeger shotgun 12gauge semi auto are these good shotguns. Need to buy one to go kill some turkeys for fun up in the mountains to get my hunting itch outta the way until deer and elk season

I bought one a couple of months ago. Great shotgun (so is the 1100). If you are going to be shooting turkey loads, that meets the requirement to fire 100 rounds of higher power ammo through the gun. I have about 500 rounds through mine, and it has been 100%. Just about all of those are light target loads on the skeet range. The gun is reliable, light (perfect for the field), and comes with a full compliment of choke tubes, including extra full turkey. For ~$400.00, you can't go wrong. I paid $399.00 for mine at Dick's.

They aren't bad guns, but have you thought about finding a used Remington? In February I bought an 870 Wingmaster for $199 out the door and my buddy bought an 1100 for $300 out the door. There were a metric ton of model 11's available for under $225.

I have had excellent service out of my 2 Stoeger 2000s. One of them is the old design. The other is the new design with much better quality innards and some improvements exterior. Both of them have been 100% reliable. I have a safe full of higher end guns but my "go to" gun is the new design 2000.

the choke tubes screw into the barrel, and apply more constriction to the shot as it leaves the barrel. They greatly increase the utility of the gun. For upland hunting like dove or quail you might want a more open chuck like maybe an Improved Cylinder (usually .010" smaller than the shotguns bore). For Turkey, you would possibly want a full or Xtra Full Turkey, since these birds are usually taken at longer ranges.

They range from most open to most tightly constricted.

The Skeet can be an exception. Remington's skeet choke is .005" larger than the barrel's bore, or Cylinder.

Here is a pretty good explanation (http://www.gunnersden.com/index.htm.shotgun-choke-tubes.html).
