I've got two seperate questions here that Im hoping someone could help me with. For better or worse I've made it a habbit to find out what the FBI uses for ammunition in their weapons, and if I happen to use the same weapon for home or personal protection, I like to choose the same load. My logic for this is because I feel that out of anyone whose going to do their homework on the best ammo selection, the FBI will.

Anyway, first question...could someone please tell me what the FBI uses in their 12 gauge shotguns for buckshot?

My second question is....Are there any situations in which rifled 1oz slugs would be better than buck for home defense?

Thank ya!

I can only help you thru the year 2004, one of the US LE contracts for the FBI was held by Federal, and a special 00 Federal tactical standard vel in a silver LE only box was duty issue.
It is a great loading and matched with some black magic barrel work in most regards eliminated fliers. I received many cases in trade for local specialized weapons and training.
What is currently the hot stuff I have no clue.

I can see no upside to using slugs inside your home.

My advice would be to use the Federal® Shell (Buckshot) withe the Flite-Control™ wad. It's a high velocity load that patterns very tightly. As the previous poster I see no use for a slug in a home defense scenario, stick w/ Buckshot.

I'm some impressed S.B.!!
I keep 158 grain semi wad cutter hollowpoints in my J frame smith, was told that was the FBI load when they carried snub nose revolvers, not an ammo guru myself, I'm with the poster that stated surely the FBI did their homework.

I am not a guru, if I was I would know the present state of who has what Federal contract! Or would have known about your Colt pump scattergun!

The rounds you have that j-frame stoked with were very good. In the age of revelovers, the federal government did a lot of work finding this round. Presently SWC have lost there rep as defensive rounds, but nothing has changed really, they work just fine.:)
