On a lark,I picked up a black leather Galco, high rider side holster for my Mauser HSC 380.

I had to go with one that fit a Compact 1911 3 inch barrel gun.

I snapped my little Mauser in that holster and I got to tell you-I see why it cost $80.

That little 380 disappeared in that holster.

The snap works PERFECTLY and the gun carries the same way.

Once in your life, you should try a great holster by a great holster company.

Nylon is a great material but NOTHING compares to a Great leather holster by a Great leather holster making company.

And in America,we are blessed to have many.

I have some rigs that cost me a lot more than my Galco ones...but none that are better. They make great holsters. :)

Once in a lifetime,You owe yourself a great holster

Got one: This was made for me by an old retired Alaska State Trooper when I retired from APD.

Galco, Bianchi and Desantis all make outstanding, fairly priced leather holsters. I prefer the Galco Fletch myself and its my holster style regardless if I'm carrying my Glock, 1911 or my S&W 637.

I don't honestly know why any one would carry in any other holster besides leather.

Galco and Bianchi are good holters when you need one fast, but they don't hold a light to the custom makers like Milt Sparks, K&D, TT, Tucker, Kramer, HBE, Del Fatti, Null, Fist and Brommeland just to name a few.

Here's a few of mine and I do have Galco and Bianchi holster to.

Sparks VMII for a 1911.
Sparks VMII for a J Frame.
Brommeland for a 1911.

My preference would be for High Noon Holsters and El Paso Saddlery. But I have a couple of very nice Bianchi's too.

I'm new to handgunning and am considering acquiring a c/c license. I like the Don Hume "upside-down" shoulder holster, but it only shows it for revolvers. Do they make one for semi-autos?

Once in a lifetime,You owe yourself a great holster

Then you don`t have a great holster yet if you don`t have one from High Noon Holsters. :D
I have 2 from High Noon. The Slide Guard in Black and the Tail Gate. The Slide Guard has the best craftsmanship work I have ever seen. And they are very comfortable to wear all day.

Holsters are like cars, I guess; everyone has their favorite brand/model. I have a Galco Concealable (Belt Holster) for my CZ P-01 and really like it - very good quality and very comfortable.

I'd say you owe yourself a great holster for every gun you're going to carry.

What would be the rational for paying $500-$1500+ for a gun but then dropping $25 on a holster?

I just got the Split Decision from High Noon Holsters for my Kahr PM9 and am very happy with it. It extremely comfortable IWB at 4:00 (hardly know it is there) and it is tuckable so you can where it with your shirt tucked, or unticked. It is easily accessible and easy to draw, although fairly hard to reholster (but since I only plan on drawing my gun in the case of an emergency, this is not an issue for me).

How about a pic? I carried my HSc in either my pant or jacket pocket...They are "all-steel" and all business...I have Galco in my shoulder rig....

Whereas these companies you mentioned do indeed make fine holsters, and I do own several of them, it is a Galco Concealable that sees the most time on my belt. It is the most comfortable holster I own.

IMHO Galco does indeed hold a light to the custom makers and one can rest assured their money was well spent.

I recently bought a Galco Executive to give as a gift. I couldn't resist giving it a try and was most impressed. No other holster maker produces a holster exactly like the Executive. It is a work of art.

I have a Galco Summer Comfort that is simply OK, but I don't the relatively carry angle, the fact that it shifts easily, and the fact that the belt loops overlie the gun making it harder to conceal.

I really want a versa max 2 or a watch six but haven't around to getting them..and I hear the wait time is very long for them :(

Thank you, Erik, . . . my thoughts exactly.

Like the LEO holster on page one, . . . never get that out of Galco, Uncle Mike's, or Wally World.

May God bless,

PSP, my Galco cost me $90 and my K&D with Shark trim was $80. Galco's are priced like customs, but you don't get the same options. So I don't thank you get your money's worth when I compare them side by side. Bianchi and Dom Hume are more reasonably priced, Dom Hume being more so.

Like I said if you need a holster in a week there is nothing wrong with a Galco, they are good off the shelf holsters, but over priced for what you get.
I know that any of my custom holsters will out last the Galco, that's why yours is so comfortable, the leather is thin and flimsy. The leather in a custom holster is thicker and stiffer and that does make it a little less comfortable, but they hold there shade and last longer.

We shall have to agree to disagree.

I too own a popular KD holster, in fact several of them. Kevin offers his holsters at quite reasonable prices and several neat arrangements. However when I compare them with several of my Galcos I honestly see no difference. My Galcos are not flimsy, nor is the leather thinner than my custom made.

Comfort in a holster comes from the way it stays put on a belt, the way it is formed to your body and to the gun. Longevity comes from quality stitches, strong leather and owner care. I will also offer this observation; every Galco I've used had a perfect fit to the gun. Perfect. Every custom holster needed fitting. Every one.

IMHO Galco makes excellent product, comparable in most every way that matters to any other holster I've seen. Why they get this "off the rack" bad rep is a mystery to me. Side by side, I say Galco rates well...see below.

(I agree to disagree) I agree with that. I guess that's why they all can stay in business.

I never said that Galco was not any good, they are good, but IMO they are over priced and not as good as a custom. That's where we disagree.

Maybe I like more options than you. I can get that with a custom and there is noway that a Galco is as thick as a Sparks VMII.

You have never seen a master piece until you have seen a Brommeland.

I hate to be "that way", but Galco? A great holster? No.

A Milt Sparks VMII is a great holster.
I would contend that my UBG Striker I is a great holster.

I own an OWB Galco holster for my K-frame S&W (I wish I could remember the name/designation...if it was a great holster, I'd sure as Hell remember it). It is well-made and serviceable, but great? No, not even.

Sorry.

ETA-- High Noon--had one for my G-23. It was either the Hidden Ally or Closing Argument--I forget which. Either way, they spend too much effort on tricky names and not enough on building something that works. I won't be sending any more money in their direction.

Galco makes a lot of holsters. Some, fairly decent, many aren't worth taking home. I really like the avenger for my 1911s but I haven't found another that I thought was a really great holster. DeSantis, Don Hume, Galco, etc all make some very serviceable holsters but even the best they have to offer can't compare to a good custom, and most custom holsters are only a few bucks more. TT, Milt Sparks, and Tucker are my personal favorites, true top notch holsters.

IMHO, the Don Hume 721 OT is one of the best holsters for the money.
