I have a 590,which I replaced the stock and forearms on.
I noticed while working on a friends 500 that the tube inside the forearm is shorter on the 500.
the 590 tube is 6 7/8 and the 500 is 5 3/4 [apx],the arms, that go into the receiver are the same length.
Now my question is can i use the 500 forearm on a 590?
I want to replace the forend and stock with the wood ones off my buddies 500.

No, the two lengths are not compatible with one another without also changing to an appropriate length action slide assembly. If you swap the entire assembly with your buddy then yes, they will interchange.

The shorter tactical style forends use the 7 5/8" action slide assembly and the sporting forearms use the 6 1/2" action slide assembly. Your measurements are shorter, but I think you are likely just measuring the tube length and not the entire assembly.

Check out www.havlinsales.com under Modern Shotgun Parts tab and scroll down for the explanation on how to measure your forearm action slide length.

Comparison of action slide lengths: top 7-5/8”, bottom 6-1/2” Measure from top of threads to bottom of collar that holds the action bars. This measurement is critical to fit when ordering forearms or stock sets that include a forearm. For the most part, 20-year and older sporting shotguns and new tactical shotguns use the 7-5/8” slide. New sporting models have used the 6-1/2” slide for almost 20 years. There are exceptions, however. To be sure, measure!

Old Style Stocks and Forearms for K850XXX serial number or older – action slide length 7-5/8”

Stocks are forearms for 500® 12 ga will also fit 835® Ulti-Mag® 12 ga. Measure the aluminum cylinder potion of your action slide to determine if old style (7-5/8”) or new style (6-1/2”)

It is a age/generation thing not model... As far as I know the 590 and 500 of similar age are compatable... I could very well be wrong so ask Mr.Havlin or the gal that I spoke to as both are absolutely well versed in these guns...

Upon fully reading this to refresh myself... I think you will be looking for an older style forestock for the 590:confused::o

The milspec oil finish ones are out of stock. They haven't updated their site yet but I emailed them about a set a couple weeks ago. :(

just finished swapping the wood set on.
I don't have a pic,but I really like the way it looks,kind of like a police style/trench gun.
