Just received a 870 Wingmaster I won on Gunbroker:
http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=128917742
In mint condition, never fired (until today), it still had factory preservative on it and bits of styrofoam in action from original packaging. I looked up the date code and discovered it was made in Dec 1987, the first year the Rem-Choke was available in the 30" barrel. Very happy with it, and I think I got a great deal, at $305.00 it was less than what a lot of places want for a 870 Express.

OUTSTANDING!!
Congratulations on a great buy. May it give you many years of service. For a current model Wingmaster with a 30-in barrel, there's only the Classic Trap at $1,039, and it's got a 2 3/4-in chamber. I suspect you were happily surprised by the final bid and had expected it to go for a lot more. If you don't mind sharing with us, was the $305 well below you anticipated max?

thats a nice looking shotgun at a steal of a price. but from looking at the pictures. It looks like it is not a wingmaster. i think it could have been tagged incorrectly. from what i know and i could be wrong. If its a wingmaster it should say so on the receiver. the one in the picture says 870 magnum. plus te wingmasters come with a high gloss stock set with the duck (or is it a bird) grip cap. the one in the picture looks just like a normal cap. also i dont think they had rem choke barrels back then. i say this based on a 1980's remington wingmaster i have.
but whatever it is. u gotta a great deal, on one of the best shotguns on the market. i have maybe close to 20k round through mine, and i havent changed anythin on it. works flawlessly with any load. only notice ive seen is the pump has gotten much smoother than it was brand new.

The word "WINGMASTER" is plainly stamped under the ejection port...

Yep. Its a WM. And $305 is a steal. You should be ashamed of yourself. ;)

Thanks guys, I was surprised to get it for that price, but hey, everybody gets lucky once in a while ! And yes, it is definitely a Wingmaster, they did not all have the gloss stocks, some were satin finished like this one. The Rem-choke was introduced in 1986 in the 26 and 28 inch lengths and 1987 in the 30" from my research.

Would you like to make a little profit off of it? Or better yet since there is controversy over whether or not it is genuine just send it to me andc I wll give it a good loving home.

I picked up a late 70's vintage wingmaster in like new condition last year. I dont think they make 'em quite like they used to.
Enjoy the shotgun, and contgrats on the purchase!

i stand corrected, i didnt notice the wingmaster engraving on the right side of the receiver. i guess i went with my wingmaster, which has wingmaster engraved on the left side of the receiver next to the serial number.
