Well I've been reading up on concealed vehicle carry in texas, since I do not have a chl. So from what I understand that if its legal for you to own a gun its legal to carry concealed in your vehicle without a chl. But I see nothing regarding legal age to carry? Since I am under 21 does this law apply to me? And also I haven't got a straight answer from anyone regarding whether you have to claim the weapon to the officer (like those of you with chl's) when you get pulled over? Any clarification on this subject would be appreciated...thanks' joel

You do not have to announce the weapon to the officer if you do not have a CHL. There was a push last session by TSRA to remove the requirement for CHL's to announce (because it's silly to make permitees announce when non-permitees don't have to), but it didn't get anywhere.

With that said, even if you don't have to, whether it's a good idea to tell or not is a different debate. I have to, so I've never had to choose for myself. I've been stopped I think twice since getting the permit. Both times, I handed him my DL, CHL, and paperwork all in one pile. Not once did they even mention the CHL.

If you are going to/required to, that is the best way.

I believe in somewhat in error. Check amendment to DPS "Sunset Bill". Not effective until Sept. 1 2009, but penalty removed for not disclosing. "Duty" still exists, but no 90 day suspension (or revocation of license for second offense).

You're right. I missed that amendment. I only knew about HB410 which died quickly. Only a bureaucrat would leave a law in place but make it unenforceable.

Don't trust your freedom to internet posters. Look up and familiarize yourself with Texas laws concerning guns.
