To my view on this banning of firearms in California I see no justice why is it that only smith and wesson, berretta all the american junky guns are staying but the real stopping power of Glock and H&K Sig Sauer are being banned ... whats next banning all foreign cars those can be lethal weapons to if u drive them fast enough ... nuff said

I can't say I am happy about the list either. But, at least one quality maker is on it (Ruger). I talked to a couple gun store owners and they all expect Glock and Sig Sauer to be added to the list sometime next year...so at least we should have more choices later on.

I've heard Beretta refered to as many things, but never an 'American Junky Gun'. The firearms on the Kalifornia list are a product of submitting the firearms, paying the fees, doing the test, etc. Nothing is being banned that falls under the guidelines. The dictators in PRK want it 'tested'. Then it's on a list. If they fall under current guidelines and don't make the list it's due to the manufacturers not wishing to comply or they fail testing. Their choice if they don't comply. Glock and Maryland comes to mind... issue of safety systems or did Gaston not really care? Resolved? I don't know.

The manual safety requirement may prove a problem for your tactical tupperware and a few other makers, but I'd bet it'll be allowed in the end. Do you think your beloved Glock couldn't pass the test? Of course it could. It still involves the manufacturers choice, much like Smith and Wesson made a few choices. And for the record, Smith produced and still produces the finest revolvers made this side of a Korth.

And what is this 'real stopping power' that your Glock 17 possesses that none of my Beretta 92's seem to have? Some Gaston voodoo, perhaps a polymer magnetism imparted to that same cartridge my 92's fire, and that creates such superior stopping power?

In the end, don't point your finger and say 'no justice' and proclaim those on the list 'junky', call your pal Gaston and his Bavarian gnomes and ask him...

Actully Glock makes pisto;s with manual safties. They just don't import them into the United States. They could become "legal" simply by importing these versions of their existing models.

Bavaria is not in Austria.

RHC, your geography is correct. I was incorrect, I'd forgotten Glock was produced in Austria, not Germany.

[Adjusting soapbox]
[Tapping on microphone {mic check, test test}]

Instead of whining about what the gun makers are, or are not, doing, why don't you get involved in your State Government? If you don't like the way things are, get involved! If you whine that you don't have the time, shame on you for wussing out! MAKE THE TIME! If you aren't sure what you can do, contact your local party office and they can direct you to a precinct office in your district that can use your help.
If you aren't going to join in the battle then stop whining that others aren't doing enough for you! Did you vote (You did Vote didn't you?) for any of your State Rep.'s, Sen.'s, or other elected officials? If you did (and even if you didn't), and you're not happy with them, let them know. The time you spend on this, and other, board(s) could be used to write letters and e-mails to let them know what you want from them. (There goes your "I don't have the time" excuse.) Get involved and change the direction of government, or get swept away in your apathy.

[Turns off microphone]
[Puts away soapbox]

We now return you to your regularly scheduled TFL, already in progress.

One of the governments legitimate functions under the Constitution is to regulate trade and foreign manufacturers are easy targets. They don't have the same "rights" that domestics have...

The antis are picking off the easy targets first to set precedent. This will give them the foothold they need for future action against domestic manufacturers.

I am no expert on international issues, just my opinion.

Another theory; Glock, HK, and the other guys passed but they're not paying the fees till after the first so that consumers will rush to buy up all of their current inventory. Testing is going to take awhile (This is the Govt. remember ? Speed ain't of the essence ;)) but over the course of the next year more and more guns will be added to the list. (Gun snob on) If Ruger is the only manufacturer available I'm moving (off).

The list of "safe" guns in california keeps growing almost evey day. I checked it this morning and it's up to 81 handguns now. Walther 9mm. and 40's were just added. CZ is now on the list along with Baby Eagles. It should keep growing. Now hopefully some 1911's will make the list.
