44AMP perfectly outlined the technical trouble.

44caliberkid pointed out you can buy a .357 Max Dan Wesson for about $1k.

My contribution: After a season, I concluded it's a nasty, snappy, unpleasant chambering. It has a legendary fireball, and that's all I can say positive about it.

If put into a lever gun, you'd soon figure .35 Remington was better.

There are good reasons they don't make .357 Max revolvers anymore.

So pick up a nice used one, have fun, and pass it along after you've experienced the hand pain and wrist snap. It won't cost you an arm and a leg in gunsmithing fees. In fact, you might break even if you buy and sell smart.
