I agree with this. Parents are a lot more forgiving than we think. So are friends. Half of the noise they'll make is from worry, and the fact that you have made the same mistakes that they have at some point. It especially helps if you can say or show that you have grown beyond your mistakes.
To put it another way, take it in the chin like a man. Then everybody can move on and focus on the mother of your friend's girlfriend.
