I keep my guns and ammo locked up but in the same place. My guns I have stowed are not loaded. The ones I keep on my person or in my bedroom are loaded, round in the chamber, with safeties on if they have them. My wife and daughter know where they are. If you need a gun in a hurry the safe may not be the best place for quick access.
