With the ease of assembly of the XD series, there's no reason not to remove the slide and clean everything every time. Mine's had far more rounds than that with no problems and I clean everything, every time.

I want every firearm clean so that if I need to depend on it I know I can. It doesn't take that long and it's a worthwhile investment of time.
