This has been the subject of rumors and conflicting reports over on xdtalk for a while now, but the definitive answer just came down from SA today (Sept. 14). All XD's manufactured from May on (not sure of the exact date) are now using the new finish. Hopefully thumbprint rust is now a thing of the past.
