I have a Bushmaster XM15-E2S. Only recently am I growing to appreciate this fine precision instrument. I am very pleased with my acquisition. Three things I have learned in regards to a "first" AR15:
1) Get one of quality manufacture (Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, Rock River)
2) Buy it brand new (this will become increasingly important as time goes
by - as intoned earlier, I bought mine as an afterthought, so to speak).
3) Get a flattop upper receiver.
In your case, Smaug, lean towards the twenty-inch barrel and get the fixed shoulder stock.
