The PT 1911 is a good gun; whatever the issues the rest of Taurus' line has, the PT1911 seems to be built to a higher standard.
Mine did have an issue with light primer strikes right out of the box, but now it works great and it is a fantastic shooter. I've not heard of another one with that issue, so I think mine was a fluke on that.
My take on the PT1911 is that if you want a 1911 and want to spend under $700, that's the one to get.
