Benzene said [quote] Here's one for our resident experts on the 1911. A local gunshop has a brand new Taurus 1911 stainless steel pistol for $560 [plus tax]. Would you buy it? Why? If not, why? Thanks in advance for your usual very helpful inputs. [quote]

This gunshop wuonl't happen to be in MD would it?

Darn, I didn't think so.

If you're planning on using this pistol for gp shooting, I'd already have grabbed it. The ONLY drawback[s] I can see to a Stainless gun is that stainless steel is somewhat prone to galling, and, if you want to drill and tap the slide for s scope or red dot, stainless steel is harder to machine.

Pics and a range report are required when you DO get this.

BTW, I have an acquaintance who shoots ONLY NRA Conventional (bulls eye) and owns two PT1911's; he's getting sub-3" groups off of a Ransom rest at 50 yards. The only thing he's done is change out the bushing to a National Match bushing, which I hear is a $40-50 job.

The PT1911 is on my short list of affordable, ready-to-go guns.

All the best,
Rob
