I wouldn't fret too much about the article you linked.
The author makes some valid points, but there is no perfect gun design.
Of course, ammo selection is important...it is so with every semi-auto.
Before any gun is carried or used for self defense, it should be thoroughly
tested with the intended carry ammo.
I have sold a few Taurus 1911s and shot one. The specimen I shot did very well, and I liked it.
The price on the one you referenced above is not much above what I pay wholesale, so it is a great buy.
