BUY THE EXTENSION.
Remington's extension and barrel clamp are the best made.
You may want one later, and they are very expensive and difficult to buy after-market.
If you decide you don't want the extension, all you have to buy is a fairly cheap and easy to get standard length spring, an old style magazine cap, and a steel spring retainer.
As for finish, Remington says their parkerized finish is 60% more durable and rust-resistant than bluing.
