The designer's name is Mikail Kalishnikov. If you want the best AKs around go and spend money on a Valmet or Galil. When you want to have a battle rifle to count on CQB range up to 200 yards the AK will suffice. It is reliable, it will feed round and shoot them under adverse conditions being snow, sand, mud or dirt. When I say adverse I mean reasonable amount, you can't throw an AK in deep mud pick it up and expect it to fire all 30 round reliably. You'll blow it up if you have mud blocking the barrel. Aftel all that said, I still prefer the AR-15 over the AK. josh
