a $900 springfield xd?
went to the NRA show in houston yesterday, at the springfield setup was a subcompact xd in .40 caliber. it had a different finish on it than any i have seen and sights like i havent seen before, they werent night sights, but had a glowing red look to them, the rep said that gun retails for about 900 bucks! i love my springfield, and that gun looked very sharp, but 900 bucks?? she said it was because of the finish and the sights, anyone else seen one of these yet? i picked up a 2005 catalog to read up on this gun but havent had a chance to look at it yet.

I take it that you are a Glock fan, huh??
I heard over at XDtalk that these are custom versions of the XD and have more than just a new finish and sights (internal work done as well). Still a lil' steep at $900 but ya have to consider the dealers mark up on it! (someone will eventually pay the $900). I am sure that somewhere in this great world that there is indeed a $900 Glock! |

The 5 inch custom shop XD is directed towards IPSC Production shooters and/or folks with too much disposable income. A tricked out sub compact is probably just a novelty/discussion piece. Yes, I have seen Glocks in GSSF and USPSA that have over $900.00 worth of work excluding the price of the base gun.

I have an XD-9 SC that has an excellent "factory finish" and super cool white dot sights.... I'll let it go for only $899! WOW, what a steal!
OK, I'm going to have to ask that not everyone put their bids in at the same time.... |

Maybe it had an aftermarket barrel, some hidden interior work and 20 or 30 magazines.

Go with the USP in 40
My second gun was a full size USP in 9mm. I love it. its not a target shooter but is plenty accurate. Seriously i've seen there things molested, burried and towed astern. they will survive anything. If your hand likes the feel you will love too shot it everyday. I plan to get the Expert in 9mm, and the Usp in .45.

The XD for $900 is a Springfield Armory Custom Shop product. The SA Custom Shop is known for very high quality work at a high value. I'm sure the $900 XD is all that an XD can be, for whatever that's worth. No way I'd ever buy it, but I wouldn't say it's not worth it. |

SA's website needs help, no doubt. You just have to know what to look for and where. I believe the pistol in question is an example of an XD that has been upgraded at the SA Custom Shop, with their "XD Tactical Pro" package. You can see the details of this package, and a couple of others, on the SA Custom Shop Worksheet, here: http://www.springfield-armory.com/CS.pdf, which is hidden away in the 1911 section of their site. It's nothing new for SA's website to be disorganized or out of date.
