Sphinx systems .45
I have seen a couple write ups on this but nowhere can I find a price or where it can be purchased from. The Sphinx site is usless and lists no prices and dosen't even list this gun.
Anyone have any actual info on it like a price and date or release?

Sabre Defense is the importer. Cost is around $2K. The pistol is a refined CZ 75.

I can't find any info on it on the SD website. If it is about 2K I may have to start saving for one!

As a previous owner of a Sphinx I should tell you that they are not simply a CZ clone. While they are the same basic design, the level of refinement is off the charts.
The frame is milled from one solid piece of aircraft-grade aluminum (I do not know if they have expanded to other materials lately though), and the slides are laser cut. All of the tolerances are measured and tweaked with a laser as well. Each piece is hand fitted together (even the most minor components) and everything is match grade (barrel, trigger, etc) and they are a true joy to own. Now, having said that... there is a big world out there in the $2k+ range. Would I take a Sphinx over a Baer, Wilson, Nighthawk? Perhaps, but only if I really had a love affair with the CZ platform over the 1911. The quality is similar, but the Sphinx is not as user-friendly according to some. The safety is harder for some to reach, the slim slide is harder for some to grasp, and the parts (including mags) are insanely expensive. As a collector, the Sphinx is a great choice. As a shooter, a Sphinx is a great choice, but the semi-custom 1911 may be more accurate. I greatly regret the day I sold mine. I bought it for a measly $650 brand new from a dealer back in the early 90's, and sold it for about the same about a year later. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I've had several Sphinx guns, still have a 9mm compact. They are, as described, quite nicely done. The new Sphinx is not cheap. $2000 might be a bargain.
Another .45 option (but with some of the same issues we regard to cost of parts, if you can find them), is the ASAI ONE PRO, a very nice .45. Not made with the same exacting attention to detail as the Sphinx, but a fine-shooting,45 based on the CZ design, with one of the smoothest, lightest triggers, from the factory, you'll ever encounter. (Too light, maybe.) |

If it around 2k or even a bit more I would seriously consider trying to buy one. 2K+ is a lot for a gun I don't care how great people think 1911s are. I much rather spend the money on the Sphinx then a cookie cutter "custom" 1911.

If I where going to spend that kind of money on a gun, I'd rather it be something that is a little more rare to find, then the 1911. I've shot a $2,000 1911, and it didn't shot any differently than my Kimber 1911. I'm sure it's got a lot more quality built into it, but it just didn't do it for me. DBAR |

By cookie cutter I mean they all look pretty much the same and although they are "custom" they all have almost all the same work done. I understand that it is a fairly simple machine and there is only so much you can do. I do like the Sphinx, EAA, CZ style guns because they are mot the same old everyone has 12 of them thing.
