.22LR SSS and/or Super Max in 10/22?
The Cabela's Master Catalog for Spring 2002 has the following Aguila Ammunition illustrated on p. 352:
22LR ammo 1. SSS (Sniper Subsonic) Loaded w/ 60 grain bullets, the heaviest bullet available for .22 rimfire. 2. "Super Maximum" - fastest LR cartridge currently manufactured - 30 grains, 1750 fps. **************** I've never used Aguila ammunition, and am not aware of its quality. Will this ammunition cycle reliably in the Ruger 10/22 rifle? I ask because this rifle's reputation as a finicky eater is well-founded. Your replies will be appreciated. TM |

I have fired the Aquila SSS from my 10/22 and it cycles fine.
The 60 grain bullet apparently has enough weight to make the bolt come back just fine. I think the finicky reputation of the 10/22 is unfounded. What happens is that for the first two or three hundred rounds the rifle simply does not work well. It will work fine during this period with some ammo, and not at all with others. However, after the rifle is broken in, they will tend to eat most everything. FYI I have also fired the Aquila CB's and they will not cycle the rifle at all, however, they are about as loud as an air rifle. I have not tried the super maximum, but I would guess that with a pumped up round that they should cycle just fine. |
