Damn! That is tough. I'll spare you any cutting humor. Good luck adapting. If you firgure out how to make/use a prosthesis to compensate for your loss, post it for other who have lost fingers.

all is not lost
several years ago I crushed my trigger finger in a stupid accident and thought all was lost as far as shooting goes. but I learned to use my middle finger on the trigger and now I still use it even after the other one has healed.
good luck and don't give up

Nuts!
It's a new challenge, and I hope you'll be able to adapt quickly and easily. In getting mine put back together, I lost part of the bone at the first joint. Seems normal now, but guns were a problem for a while, but at least I had an adaptable, if mangled, trigger finger. Good luck, and keep us posted! |

There is just NO REASON
for a citizen to own a TABLE SAW. Table saws should be registered. If this man had to wait a reasonable 10 days to get his table saw, he might today have a trigger finger.
Say NO to table saws NOW. For the children |

I once knew a young man who was an outstanding bullseye target shooter. Part of the reason was that he has lost the feeling in the end of his trigger finger due to nerve damage. As a consequence he couldn't feel when the trigger went off and didn't flinch. In other words he turned a handicap into a plus.
Another friend had also lost most of his trigger finger, but had special grips fitted to his pistol that allowed him to pull the trigger with the second finger. Did well too. I wish you luck. Don't give up - ever. |

Sorry to hear that. It'll take some time, but I'm sure you'll adapt.

Hang in there.
I know of an old coot who lives near me in Palm Springs: He lost his left arm, but has a prosthesis. This old guy rides a full-dress harley and uses his "hook" to operate the handlebar-mounted clutch lever!! He's a mean old bas**rd, but I gotta respect him for adapting. We're pulling for you!

See? I knew I was at an advantage in cross-dominant shooting. I am right handed, but shoot long guns left handed due to a childhood thing of not being able to close the left eye independantly to aim. I just learned to shoot long guns left handed and it never bothered me. I can shoot long guns either way now but I prefer doing it left handed. It just feels more natural for me. Go figure!
Handguns are still used right handed. Thais all means that I have two trained trigger fingers!!!! A few years ago I did something stupid with a circular saw also and it kicked back (I was trying to make an awkward cut left handed) and ran over my right index finger. It took a beautifully shaped notch out of the end of the finger lengthwise, making a perfectly rectangular saw cut in the fingernail half way up. It just nicked the bone. I wrapped it up tight with a regular old band-aid and drove myself to the hospital. They cleaned it out a bit and just re-wrapped it with their own butterfly band-aid. They said they couldn't stich it because there was nothing stich. It actually healed quite well, although I have lost a great deal of the touch sensitivity at the tip of the finger. It really doesn't affect my shooting though... Good luck, man!

My condolences for your missing digit, We all need to pay more attention to what we're operating,be it a gun or powertool. I never lost a digit, but drilled a hole clear thru the web of my left hand & another time split my middle finger like a hotdog bun(nerve damage on that one) with a utility knife. I hope antigunners aren't getting any new ideas about disarming us with your post

Switch hands, switch trigger fingers, or when it heals up just use what's left of yours. No big deal. I knew a guy that was a State Trooper, his misdeed left him pinky, middle and thumb on his right hand. Yhe others were gone back to the last knuckle, no stumps or anything. He was still able to qualify with his pistol both hands.
Woodworkers must do this. I've seen fingers get planed off by planers, people nail themselves to the floor w/ a nail gun, etc. Lapses in attention tend to be costly when using power tools.

That's tough, to be sure. However, I knew a guy who had his middle finger cut off (a moment here to fill in with your even remotely funniest one liner ). Can you imagine the never-ending sophisticated humour this guy has had to endure? At least he can still shoot a gun. You, on the other hand can still shoot a bird!
Oh man, that's good! I gotta call him....geegee |

Ive been there, 3 years ago i lost 9mms of my trigger finger in a CAMDEX loading press. I was unable to use my finger for a month and couldnt shoot with it fo about 3 months. i decided to switch hands and exclusivly use a revolver, double action all the time, i trained my left eye and now im completely ambidextrious. I guess it was a blessing in disguise. learn lefty, it sucks for awhile but in the long run its almost better, becuase you dont have to teach that side all your bad habits.
ps, if you try the righty thing with the middle finger, make sure your index is not next to your ejection port. chris |

OUCH! My husband sawed off a finger tip... it was re-attached, but in the meantime he started shooting with his middle finger and still does.
