Help Me Pick My First .45

I have narrowed my choice of a new .45 down to four, and will be purchasing it next Friday (payday). Here are the three finalists:

1) Glock 36

2) SIG-Sauer P220

3) P245 (which fits me better than the P220 despite limited capacity)

4) HK Compact USP45 (late entry - disregard my earlier thread about H&K $$$ )

I'll probably go with the Glock, though I really like the Sig P245, which is just plain sexier and fits my hand like a glove. It doesn't seem to get much respect among Siggies, though, which is disconcerting.

Thanks for helping pick my own Christmas present this year.

The 245 is a fine gun the 239 used to be the whipping
boy now everyone has one........I would definately go
for the 245 over the Glock.

The USPc is anything but compact nice piece but too damned large (sold mine)The fullsize ditto.

The 220 is a gem but large for daily carry if thats not an issue
its the best of the bunch.

Gratuitous plug:
BTW I have a 245 FS $500 plus shipping its 98%
and i am only selling to finance another piece.

I love the 220, heck I've had three. The 245 is a good gun, but for me it is a bit too small, however if it fits your hands go for it. I tend to like the trigger pull of the sigs better than the glocks, that and the grip angle on the glock slows me down. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the ones you have picked however.

Croyance: Concealed is a distinct possibility. When I do carry, it's my Glock 23 now.

Faustulus: The P245 is my favorite ergonomically. I'm just worried they'll stop making it due to slow sales.

Nomadz: I am interested in your 245. As long as you keep it in as good as shape as your M3. How many rounds through it and when was it purchased?

I Voted for the P245 !!

Because it is as accurate and reliable as the P220 only in a smaller package.
I have shot several and like them and it is going to be me next purchase as well.
That being said I already have 2 P220s one Two-Tone and the other is a Stainless Steel one!

Long Live Sig!!

If the 245 shoots as well as it fits in your hand, by all means, get it!

I voted 220 simply because it is the finest DA .45acp on the market. Very accurate in my hands and utterly reliable. Conceals well enough. The only other .45acp I would've voted for is the HKUSP45fullsize, but alas, it's not on your list.

Happy shopping!

Those are all really fine pistols. I'd say it's a personal preferance call.
Only thing I can point out is that Glock is good if you tend to be hard on your guns.

One more thing I'll throw into the ring is the CZ or Witness .45. Kinda big for carry but otherwise fine pistols.
I have about 600 rounds thru my Witness and love it. Great grip and more accurate than my G-22. A great value at $337.25 in Wonder finish. Ten round mag, too.

When I was faced withe a similar decision re 40 S&W between SIG and CZ I ended up with the CZ and have absolutely no regrets. Damn sure would NOT get a Glock. I have a Border Patrol friend with one and its APOS for certain. Hate shooting the damn thing. Don't like its looks either. CZ then SIG.

You yourself have said that the Sig P245 fits you like a glove. So that would mean that the Sig P245 is your best bet. A gun that fits you best is the best thing you can buy since you would not have to spend time getting acquainted with it to start shooting it well. If you want more capacity, you could always buy 7 or 8 round P220 mags. Those will fit the P245. Use these for your 2nd and 3rd magazines, and you can put the 6 round magazine as the one in the carry holster.

I've heard that the P220 is pretty good as a CCW too, unless you are extremely small. Its usually the width of the gun that is the main criteria for concealability, with the length/height as the 2nd criteria.

Get the one you want. People rarely go too far wrong by getting a SigSauer.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to get the P245 (even though it finished last in the vote count), especially now that Frohickey informed that I can use P220 mags in it. Very useful information!!!

I almost got the G36. I drooled over one at a dealer but ended up not buying it. I thought I'd get a better deal at an upcoming gun show, but the dealer never brought a G36 to the show.

Ended up getting a SigArms M2, shot it for a while but never fell head over heels, traded it and got a Beretta Cougar 8045 (.45 acp). Im damned glad I did. You should look at the Cougar. Do a side by side shoot with your choices and this gun.

Let the guns convince you. I bet there's an equal chance you'd pick the Beretta. It is as sweet a shooter as you are going to find.

I might still get a G36 one of these days...
