Cantilever mount for double duty AR + bolt action?
I just got a US Optics ts-20X that I want to put on a 6.5 Grendel AR upper,
but I would also like it to do double duty on my Savage 12 vlp .308 rifle: I was thinking about buying this Bobro quick detach mount: https://www.bobroengineering.com/Sta...ount_p_12.html The idea would be to quickly swap the scope from one rifle to the other. Can cantilever mounts be used on bolt action rifles that do not have a full rail? If anybody has experience trying to do double duty for a scope on AR and bolt action platform, I'd love to get your advice.

I think it won't work because the required heights are substantially different. You'll need a large cheek rest on the Savage to get your eye high enough.
The rail problem is easily solved, though: https://www.mountsplus.com/egw-hd-sa...ope-mount.html |

I personally wouldn't want to do that for the following reasons. So much hassle that I ended up having dedicated optics.
Optics high above bore axis is clumsy. AR does that for the benefit of inline bore. There is no benefit for the other rifle. Same optics on different rifles will have different zeroings. QD mount makes it even more questionable. I have tried that and it doesn't work well. I have to at least recheck the zero with collimator every time. -TL Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk |
