sort THEN tumble! lol

i just pulled a bunch of brass out of the tumbler, i was sorting it into the boxes when i pulled out a 45/70 case with a .44mag stuck in it. i pull out the .44 and am tossing it in its box when i decided it felt heavy.

looked in it and see a .32acp, i smacked out the .32 and look in to see another case, i grab my screw driver and pry out a 9mm, just to make sure i check again i look, and see ANOTHER case. it was a .40s&w.
to recap; 45/70-.44mag-.40s&w-9mm-.32acp! lol

i had to go back thru my boxes to double check that i didnt miss anything.

lesson learned, sort then tumble! lol

I am surprised there wasn't a few .22 rf in there also.

I was trying to load some .223 the other day and broke a primer pin on a 22 that was in the case that had been tumbled. Wonder what that wold of done the the load?

Never tumble 45 gap with 50 bmg unless you like puzzles.

I don't feel so stupid now! I made a mistake of tumbling .45 with 9mm and some 45-70. I had to pull the 9MM out of the 45-70 and .45 cases and re-clean.

I made the same mistake by mixing 9mm w .40cal brass and let me tell you...those buggers get stuck pretty well. I had to use pliers on a couple cases because the media got stuck in there a well!

I have found if you leave the top of the tumbler on and don't disterb them, they will breed.
Nothing like a bunch of .25 autos running around. there cute.

Learned early on in the tumbling proccess, one caliber at a time. Tried .45Colts, .41mag, .357mag and .32mag. Will never do that again.

I do 9mm and .38/357 together and do .45 and .44 but have yet to figure out what to do with the .40. I just don't shoot enough to clean them separately they are a PITA

When I first got into reloading I loaded my tumbler up on the back porch with some 9mm, some .40 and some .45. I came inside and posted a thread about it here on TFL. I was proud of myself you see

. Then folks started the "OH NO!" posts. Too late to save me from an evening of unsticking cases.

Kinda reminded me of those Russian nesting dolls.

If I don't sort 223 from 45acp...I find em stuck together as well.

Sort, decap/resize, tumble, load, shoot, repeat.

Agreed. I think we all make that mistake--ONCE.

For me, it was tumbling 9mm and .45acp together. They were almost all stuck inside one another. What a pain.

Doesn't Lyman still make bags for tumbling mixed brass all in the same tumbler?

Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger unless you are ready to shoot. 4. Be be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
