So how's a gas piston AR upper's accuracy compared to a regular one?
There are only a few. One is by DSA and runs in the roughly normal AR price range. Accuracy is degraded a bit compared to a normal AR--seems like 2-3MOA, IIRC. Shotgun news had a pretty good writeup on the rifle awhile back.

The other is by a custom outfit and is far more expensive--it's also much more of a redesign than DSA's piston AR. I haven't seen accuracy figures for it.

...does that mean the Ljungman and Hakim are considered more accurate than average, being direct impingement?
I know that the Ljungman is considered to be very accurate--even more so when one considers that it's a 1940's era military issue semi-automatic. I don't know that much about the Hakim, but I wouldn't expect the same level of performance from it for various reasons having little or nothing to do with the action type.
