Buying my first 1911 today...A DW.

Well Dan Wessons are difficult to find right now, so I finally found a good price on one in Kansas. Gonna have it shipped to me in Alabama. It's a Pointman 7. Can't wait to get it.

That's what I have heard. It seems like, for the price, there is not a better gun on the market. I got it for under a grand, not many 1911s available brand new for under $1000. Any guys have any experiences with these guns?

Keep it well lubed first 500 rounds These are very tight pistols and some have locked up due to not enough oil. I have the bobtail and it is very accurate and will out shoot my Colts. They are a great pistol. Welcome to the club

Where in Kansas did you get your deal ?
The PM7 is really tight and accurate. A PM7-10 took me ~350 rounds to smooth out and occasional FTFs to abate. DW says at least 400 round may be necessary for break in so don't give up if you have some glitches. Try CMC 10 round [.45] powder mags, they're great.

Due to the reputation of D.W.'s being pretty tight, I took the advice I found on one of the 1911 forums to disassemble, clean, lube and hand cycle the slide (minus barrel and recoil spring assembly) 4-500 times on my CBOB. Being stainless, you could easily see the black wear particles in the oil at the rear of the slide. After 150 or so cycles, I removed the slide, cleaned and re-lubed and then repeated. After 500 cycles or so, I cleaned & lubed and shot the CBOB. Zero problems and I saved some ammo. Might not be needed on your pistol and might not have been needed on mine but it can't hurt and might save a "my slide is stuck" post

Congratulations, they are great pistols.

Use a high quality oil like FP-10 or something (no CLP or grease) to lube, especially for the first couple hundred rounds or so. The few incidents I've seen of galled or seized up DWs seemed to always involve CLP or grease as the lube. DW took care of them, no questions asked, but it makes me think that the lube might be the culprit there.

I didn't do all the hand cycling with my CBOB, but it certainly can't hurt anything. Just be careful not to accidentally let the slide slam home.

Enjoy your new PM7.

Jason

It's on its way fellas. Should be here by Tue or Wed. Gonna have to find somewhere that sells FP-10 or Miltec. I think I got a good price at $955 shipped. This being my first 1911, I really appreciate all the advice and info. I'll post pics when it arrives if someone walks me through how to post 'em.
