? on finish...
...of a S&W .44 Classic. I think the model is mid '90's, but not sure about that yet. Is it nickel or S/S? Just want to know what the surface is I'm going to be cleaning and what to use/not use on it.
Thanks for any help. Tim. |

If the model number starts with a 6 it is stainless. If not it would be either blued or nickel apparently.

If it is a Classic, with the laser etched S&W and .44 magnum stamps, It'll either be blue or stainless steel. They didn't make them in nickel, although someone may have had a blued gun plated with nickel or hardchrome. Like someone said, if it's a 629-stainless. If it's a 29, then it's a blued gun that must have been plated for you to not be sure of the finish.
If it has a replaceable front sight ie; by pushing in a plunger at the front of the sight below the blade, then it's an early '90's gun. Somewhere around the mid '90's, they dropped that feature and went with the pinned in blade. |
