Nukes.. Are you planning to stockpile even more ammo?
Iran will have nukes soon. Israel will attack Iran before that happens. What will US and others do. I've heard some conservative commentators say that this will lead to WWIII.
Question... Are you planning on stockpiling even more ammo? Will the shortage get even worse? |

The Iranians are crazy, not stupid. That war could set a world's record for ending in less than 40 minutes.

I can only assume you think that Iranian/Middle Eastern/terrorist nukes could somehow trigger a TEOTWAWKI-type event.
I have a hard time seeing that. Let's say Iran detonates a nuke tomorrow, Israel or the US strikes them, etc. Could lead to another oil shortage/OPEC hissy fit, could lead to war in the Middle East, could even lead to terrorists detonating a nuke in NYC or something. But...I don't see how my having more ammo would help that situation. I already have all the ammo I could ever need to handle terrorism. Terrorists are not going to come to my house (though if they did, problem solved). I carry concealed, so I suppose I'm as ready as I'd ever be for some AK47-toting madman in a shopping mall. If they set off a bomb, a crate of .50 isn't going to help me. If I thought society was going to collapse tomorrow...maybe I'd lay on some more, though I'd probably spend more time looking at my fishing gear. I think the Iranian nuke will be a helluva problem and lead to a lot of unpleasantness, but not the collapse of society. |

The
End Of The World As We Know It discussions are frowned upon.

Pakistan started it's nuclear program in 1972. I started stockpiling ammo then, even though I wasn't born yet. I now have 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 rounds of .308, because I buy a box every time the news whips me up with some doomsday scenario.

I'm spending my money laying in a huge supply of Pepsi in advance of the upcoming soda tax. And no whining later from those of you who don't and get caught short. You do know that prices are going to go through the roof don't you? Hmmm? And don't even get me started on what will happen to prices when, not if, Venezuela interferes with South American sugar production.

I fail to see a correlation between nuclear proliferation and ammo procurement by private individuals. You might as well ask people if they're stocking up on shampoo to prepare for hurricane season. I am concerned with the real needs of my existence, like stockpiling money for my kid's college. I'm much more likely to use that as opposed to ammo bought out of concern for today's geopolitical climate. |

And, unfortunately, the concept is STILL preparing for the end of the world as we know it.
Sorry, but that's off topic, so I'm closing this thread. If one of the GD regular mods has a different view of this, we can open it back up.

Sitting on the fence whether to let it slide or not, I gave it a bit more time. With a fellow Staff member having more experience and sound judgement closing this thread, I trust it's best to keep it closed.
