What would you pay?
Well,
I posted a while back about a customized light weight gun I was looking at for all-round hunting. My options were the Weatherby ultra light and the Remington Titanium. BUT, this gun came up at a local shop and I couldn't resist. I'm just wondering if I payed too much or if was a good deal compared to the other light weights I just mentioned. I'm wondering if I can my investment out of it if it turns out that I don't like it Cdn prices Rem Titanium - $1550.00 Weatherby Ultralight $1680.00 The gun I purchased was 4 years old not used much for $1000.00 Details of it are: .30-06 caliber Weight with scope/rings/clip- 6.5lbs Rem 700 action - modified fluting / hollowed bolt etc Trexlar box magazine and trigger guard Pacific Research Kevlar stock - now owned by rimrock (borden) Shilen supermatch barrel - custom tapered I'm kinda new to this game... I'm mainly a bowhunter but needed an all rounder for mountain hunting. I have a picture but it doesnt really show the action very well but I'll post it anyways. Thanks for any replies.. |

Figure your rifle w/an out-of-the-box bbl is costing you $US1500+, I don't think a 700 action with a Shilen match bbl and scope / accessories for $US1000 isn't too bad.
Take the horse out'n see if she'll run. Let us know! Regards, S.

Heck, I'm with echo3mike, if you can hit what your shooting at with it, you got a deal.

Yeah, sounds like you got a good deal.
Odd about the Titanium, though. Last fall, the MSRP was $1,289. I bought mine in 7mm08 for (IIRC) $1,115 plus tax. I put a Weaver V3 on my Ti; 6-1/4 pounds, "wet". I'm getting three-shot groups about 1" at 100 yards, which is all I need for a hunting rifle. Art |

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've shot it a couple of times and was worried about the recoil with such a light gun.. but it's not that bad. Those prices I was quoting are Canadian prices.. so they may vary from what your used to seeing The $1000.00 price tag didn't inlude the scope and rings.. they were separate. The whole purchase price was like 1400.00 canadian or something. Anyways.. thanks again for the replies. I'll let ya'll know how it shoots. |

I have a Win mod 70 Classic compact in 7mm08 with a Leupold 3x9 33 compact scope that weighs only 6lbs 12oz with 5 cartridges and sling and swivels that I paid $399 for the rifle and $250 for the scope. It shoot my handloads 3 or 4 in an inch at 100yds. Was the weight saving of 8 oz worth around $500

Aha! Canadian dollar = about .65 of a US dollar.
Perfessr, Mr. Winchester's website sez the Classic Compact weighs six pounds, bare. You total 12 ounces of scope, mount, sling, swivels and ammo? Also, that's a 20" tube--which ain't a lot of velocity loss, but as a generality, longer is better... , Art |
