1911
+1 on 1911 single stacks. Slim enough and on some models short enough to conceal. Reliability is assured by the fact that the models have been around for almost 100 years. John

I personally think that your needs scream Colt Commander to me.
Great guns that hold their value and after all they are a Colt. My second pic would be a Dan Wesson Bobtail. |

New .45 Auto
Don't dismiss the Glock 36 for concealed carry. It is small and light enough to conceal easily, and big and powerful enough to adequately fulfill its purpose for self defense. Ignore the web hype about unreliability -- in the 14 months that I have owned my G36 it has never once failed to feed or eject any ammo fed to it, including my own handloaded 200 gr FMJ-FP and 230gr plated RN ammo. And I've put 3,000 rounds through it so far. As for accuracy, I get 2 inch groups at 10 yards off hand. As a self defense pistol, it will do just fine.

Deputy1999,
Although web hype might be the case, I think you'll find on this website that whether you like Glocks or not, most agree to their rugged design. Nonetheless, a good piece of advice you give... |

If your going to check out the XD I'd also look at the Taurus PT-145 Milpro. Mine shoots better than a 3" pistol should. The finish is just ok, but for $300 I didn't buy it to be a show piece (it is a very accurate workhorse though).
If you want a less expensive 1911 I've heard good things about the Taurus PT1911, but again the finish isn't what it could be. I would spend a few extra bucks and get a SA milspec or (I chose the Kimber custom II for $634 out the door) it has a great trigger and shoots a real tight group at 20'. Jerry |

how about a Para Warthog
A bit pricey at 750 but a very small 10+1 45 I sure would not mind having one http://www.impactguns.com/store/770752110110.html

Another recommendation for the 1911. I love mine. Best decision I ever made was to get a 1911. I just hate plastic and love the feel of a "real" high quality feeling metal handgun.
