Older reloading data needed - 452AA powder
Sorry, I'm in a spot. If anyone has any older reloading manuals and can look this up, I'd really appreciate it. My wife's uncle gifted us 10 lbs of 452AA and I'd like to reload it for her 380 ez pistol. (the powder is old, but in good shape) I've found forum data for this powder on 45 auto but not 380. If anyone has any old reloading books and can help, I'd appreciate it greatly. 100 gr fmj. Thank you!

I'm sure I have some of the 90s reloading pamphlets with that powder. Maybe I'll have to a chance to look that up later tonight. If you have a chronograph you can always work up a load to 850 or 900fps.

I would call Hodgdon with the bottle in front of you.

My copy of the Speer #11 shows one load with the 95 gr. bullet.
Start: 3.3 gr./913 FPS Max: 3.7 gr./1018 FPS I have quite a few older manuals and the Speer data is all I could find. Frankly, I think that max load is a bit on the hot side and I would work up just warm enough for reliable functioning. Not much leeway between the start and max loads. Paul B.

9.4 or 9.5 grains would be about right if Paul's data reflects your actual results. Not a lot of space in the case so OAL is probably also something to consider.
Holy smokes, I meant to say 3.4 to 3.5 grains! Last edited by rc; March 15, 2024 at 09:30 PM. |

Thanks everyone for the input. I'll start with the 3.3 and chrono...and work my way up. Appreciate it!
(btw, I did email Hogdgon about this prior to my post in this forum, they gave me links to reloading data sites that didn't have this powder listed - no help) Last edited by J0nsy; March 15, 2024 at 06:33 PM. |
