split
I was torn between the Smith and the Ruger. I picked the ruger for the fact of the ones I have owned I prefered the action of the Ruger.

Borland beat me to it. Yep, it's a Manurhin, and as I understand it those French cops are pretty good with them.

I voted Ruger.
I got rid of two SW K-frames, but still have my GP-100. I got rid of two SW J-frames, but still have my SP-101. I prefer the ergonomics and triggers of the Rugers. Only Colt I ever shot was a single-action, so I can't compare. |

I never knew anyone had any troubles with the Taurus revolvers until I got into these forums. I had one back in the 80's and it worked great-thwarted an armed robbery with it once too. They dropped their weapon as they scrambled into the dark of night--it's a wonder I didn't get shot.
Once target-level performance has been developed on the part of the shooter and custom-smithed guns have been handled, I don't see how ANYbody can be satisfied with out-of-the-box arms. The ONLY sidearm I've ever owned that couldn't use some trigger/action tweaking is my NAA mini!--and it is what it is (something to make space while I go for the larger weapon) I could/will probably say the same about an American Derringer when I get one. To be completely fair, I've not handled a DW. yet! Even more completely fair (to the NAA), a man was killed with 2 shots from a 22 near my house last Friday night. Rare--but details abound in my tiny community-I'll find out the exact arm eventually.

I have also never had Dan Wesson, but would like one. Heard lot of postive things about it.
Too bad revolvers are not available in variety in PK |

If Colt still made commercial stuff I wonder in such event SW had still won this poll.
Charter arms and astra remained without vote. I am looking for a 357 Korth since I have heard its an ultimate in craftsmenship and accuracy. |

I didn't vote because the poll question is too vague.
Sure I'm a S&W revolver fan, I love them pre-locks. The question asks which one is best. Best for what? Collectability, BBQ, Plinking, Target, Hunting, CCW. Here's an Example: Would I feed my 629 Classic a steady diet full house 300 grainers. Week in and week out? Simply, no. What about a Super Redhawk in 44mag for instance? If I wanted to shoot that heavy of a load constantly, Yep Which one would I most likely buy for casual plinking and hunting? Pre-lock every time. I like the triggers and overall looks much better than anything else. Do I own a Super Redhawk, no. Other vintage models, yes

You are right it is vague. It all depends on the use. in 357 if I was shooting targets I would go for a Python, if I was carrying for defense, a Smith. However I Carry a Sig I don't like Smith Autos. I own 7 Smiths, two are autos a Sigma 40cal (Glock Clone), and a 6906 9mm, as well as a original 1911Pre A1 and an original Detective Special

I voted Smith's, because I've been shooting them for 50 years. I've currently got two, M35 and M60, both J-frames. My brother inherited my dad's old (1948) K-22 Masterpiece.
The only Smith I ever sold was a 2.5" bbl M66. It was a bit too much for me, but perfect for my young US Army Captain friend. Having said that, what's in my pocket at the moment? A NAA mini. Best of the "mouse guns". http://www.naaminis.com/lrifle.html It might be tiny, but loaded with Velocitors, I'd sure hate to be on the receiving end of it! |

The Best revolver they currently make is the S&W 627PC, or even the non PC model. 8 shots of .357 magnum, can also shoot .38 spl, great for somone that doesnt reload. The 5" tapered barrel model has perfect balance.

I would have voted for S&W, but since I'm still longing for the (2) 6" blued Pythons I practically gave away in the eighties, I had to throw my vote at Colt.

I am always leery of "which is best" polls...
I am a fan of Smith, Ruger and Colt. They all make great revolvers, and I would be happy to buy any of them. Presently, I only have a Smith, but have been planning on buying a Ruger soon. I don't have a Colt, and, even though I am impressed with them, I don't plan on buying one anytime soon, atleast in SA/DA. Also, the Berretta, Ubertii, and Cimmaron SA revolvers I have handeled have all been excellent. I've not seen many cylinders spin nicer than my father's Berretta Stampede, and for the money, my Cimmarron Model-P has been nothing short of excellent. |

To me, the best revolver that I've actually shot was a Freedom Arms .44Mag that an uncle of mine had. I know they're expensive, but it was the first gun I ever really thought was worth the big price tag once I shot it. I would love to have one myself, but don't quite have that kind of money to throw around on a gun that can't even be CC'd.

I chose Ruger, it's what I own and I love it. But, the poll should be a fan-fair poll, not what it best. lol. Because really it comes down to who's loyal to what. In any case...

I clicked the link (I'm a curious person) and holly crap it has a holster handle to hide the gun (somewhat) and attach to the belt! That has GOT to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Seriously? Who would suspect?

I would have chosen Smith and Wesson, because I think they make and market some of the best revolvers out there for people who aren't completely loaded but want to shoot great guns, but recently I have had the pleasure of shooting a Freedom Arms model 97 in .357 mag. That my friends, is my pick for best all around revolver.

Smith & Wesson
My first handgun was a S&W 67-1 my wife got out of lay away for an anniversary gift circa 1980. I didn't know then but I know now what a work of art that gun was. After 80 years of refining the military & police service revolver, Smith & Wesson knew how to build 'em,
Epilougue: I kept that gun for 10 years and fired thousands of rounds of handloaded ammo through that gun. Then in a moment of weakness (INSANITY) I sold it! What an idiot. Looking for another one right now. As far as I'm concerned the K-frame 38's are the best. |

Smith's and Colt's are nice weapons, but my money for best revolver would go with Ruger any day.

I voted for S&W about the only reason why is because I seem to have more of them than anything

The question is entirely nubile and too vague, even for the individual. Best for what? There is no best, there never will be. It will always come down to intended use, your own personal definition of "best" and personal preferences. Then there's best in terms of quality and value as well as your own personal appreciation for those characteristics. The fact that USFA, Freedom Arms and Korth account for only 8% of the total votes tells me we all have broadly varying definitions of "best".
