GI is finished (I mean it this time)

Back in January, I posted some pics and listed some work I was doing on a Springfield GI I tackled as a DIY project.

http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...d.php?t=160077

After that post and some shooting, I did more work. Put a file to the pistol and gave it a melt. No more sharp edges. Reshaped the grip safety and hammer. Replaced the sear with an EGW, the disconnector with an Ed Brown part. Fitted a Ed Brown thumb safety, and installed a S&A laynard loop MSH so this pistol won't become part of the list of things I have left to appease the Gods of the desert.

After all this work, the pistol had a lot of missing finish from all the sanding and had mismatched blue parts to boot.

Off it went to Mac's Shootin' Irons for Gun Kote over parkerizing. Today, new G10 grips arrived from Larry Davidson.

That's a good looking gun. I'm thinking about trying to do a roundabout same thing to one of those new 13 round Springfield .45's

Excellent. You have just executed what I see as the limit of sensible customization of JMB's old cornsheller. Doubt that I'll run out and order a pair of those grips- but grips are an area where we get to express ourselves a little w/o giving up anything in utility. You did a fine job with this, and I particularly like the sights you used.

Dave, it's all about the grips.

The msh is just a Smith & Alexander part. Lately, a few other vendors has started putting out their versions of msh's with laynard loops. Guncrafters has a new one where the loop is recessed. I may use that one on my next project. Yost-Bonitz will modify your exisiting msh. More then a few ways to skin that cat.

I go back and forth between arched and flat housings. I still can't figure out which I like more.

Thanks for the compliments. I like my pistols pretty basic. I'm easily confused.

That is a Fine looking 1911, and I REALLY like those grips.
I went to the website, but i didn't see what they are made of.
Are they wood, or some type of polymer? Whatever it is, I
like it, and I may have to GET it.
