Just as a FYI:

http://links.jstor.org/sici?sici=009...OR-enlargePage

and:

http://icwdm.org/handbook/birds/Eagles.asp

and:

http://arcticcentre.ulapland.fi/docs...etal2006WB.pdf

Indicates that though deer/caribou/reindeer predation by eagles is not their primary food source, that they will kill large game animals with relative ease.

The one mulie doe I saw killed by a golden eagle (the one with the broke foreleg) got hit in the upper neck/head region. The neck, and skull were both obviously broken after the impact, and the talons has tore deep into the neck and severed the main arteries on one side. It was dead before it even hit the ground.

Sorry Fisherman66, I still don't know how to post links and I could only find reference to it in my search.

But a very interesting video I did find was on a site called BIRDCHICK.COM.

I searched... (eagle vs fox birdchick)

It was of a man hunting with a Golden in Spain I believe and the video shows the Eagle catching a Fox. Very, very neat.

Can someone help with the link?

You must scroll to the bottom of the page for the Falconer and his catch video.

We also dont know if they are even hunting for sport or if they are just letting the eagle feed.

If these guys are actually feeding their families, they surely dont care if it is a fawn or a full grown deer. Food is Food.
