Frame sizes

Does anyone here have a decent listing of what model # or name corresponds to what size frame. I know that S&W have the I, J, K, L, N, M? and what about the Colt frame sizes?

Well, I don't know squat about the Colts, but I do the Smith & Wessons. The best lists, by far, are in the Jim Supica/Rick Nahaus book entitled "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson."

I can, however, whet your whistle with a (very) few off the top of my head...

M frame (smallest) - Ladysmith (only gun ever produced in this frame size.)

I frame - Regulation Police, Terrier, .22/32 Kit Guns

J frame - Chief's Special, Body Guard, Airweight versions of same, Models 36, 37, 38, 42, 042, 442, 638, 632

K frame - Combat Magnum, Combat Masterpiece, Target Masterpiece, Military & Police, Models 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, stainless steel variations.

L frame - 581, 681, 586, 686

N frame - Triple Lock, Model of 1950, Model of 1917 US Army, Models 24, 25, 27, 28, 57, 58, 29, and stainless steel variations.

Those are just a FEW of the many models that S&W has put out over the years. My list includes some names for guns that were later produced with model numbers (Combat Magnum = Model 19, Combat Masterpiece = Model 15).

Anything specific you need answered?
