AR 15 7.62x25 Upper

What do you guys think about an AR 7.62x25 upper gas operated 16" barrel? What do you think this is comparable terms of stopping power? Do you think it could be good for anything other than a cheap pilinker? I'm caught between this and a 5.45x39 upper, I'm leaning towards the 7.62x25.

???

the 7.62x25 is a small pistol round that the com block used in there sub guns and a few pistols . i dont think it would make a good ar round at all. now if you mean the 7.62x 39 big diff and i would go with the 5.54x39 . it is an outstanding round. and you mag. cap is alot higher then with the 7.62x39 i think its 10 rounds or so for the 7.62x39 and a full 30 rounds for the 5.54x39

Dupe, so I'll give you my Dupe reply.

The 7.62x25 is a very effective round, and I consider if a good alternative for a CQB weapon. I think it would be more managable than a .45 acp Carbine for rapid follow up shots, and more powerful than the 9mm Carbine.

There are a lot of people that have been looking for a carbine that would fire the 7.62x25 other than the C&R stuff. The AR platform is one of the only platforms that wouldn't take much to change over. There are already 9mm ARs out there, so the only thing that would have to be changed would be the barrel, maybe the bolt, but the CZ 52 has 9mm barrels available, and no other changes so the bolts may be interchangable. Changing the recoil spring would be a good idea, since the 7.62 is a little hotter than the 9, but I think that would be it. You wouldn't have to order a bunch of barrels, just the minimum by someone like Wilson, which would still be in the thousands. If they sold like hot cakes then increase the order. Everything else would be of the shelf stuff.

Not a bad idea. I wish I would of thought of it first, and had the money to try out the market.

EDIT: Oh yeah, another thing. Think about the guys with registered NFA lowers. Cheap ammo, and Lots, and Lots of fun.

Damn, I wish I would of thought of it. I could of talked someone into financing something like that. Don't even need an FFL to manufacture the uppers, and there is already a market for them. List the uppers with the guys selling the ammo.

I saw a guy shooting a AR pistol chambered in 7.62x25 at the Tusco steel plate shoot a few months ago. Didn't get to talk to him much so I don't know who made the upper. I think it was using modified PPSH stick mags, I could be wrong.... (weld a feed tower on a PPSH drum... drum fed 7.62x25 AR goodness... probably wouldn't feed)

7.62x25 in an AR is an awesome idea, and the uppers exist. Here's a Google cache of a page offering them. 32 round mags, and chrome barrel means you don't have to worry about the corrosive salts:

Not sure what kind of energy you'd get, but I bet you'd be comfortably over 2000 fps which would make a decently flat shooter.

Sorry, but I went to school, and had enough of that there. I don't post on forums to be told how bad my grammar is. I've seen a lot worse here on this forum. My grammar is way better than most around here.

I wouldn't say that, but it is a lot more resistant to the salts. You'd still want to neutralize the salts. Especially if they are using the DI gas system, but most pitol caliber AR's are a blow back design.

The PPSH was a pretty formidable weapon. Of course most of that had to do with its high rate of fire and large capacity mags.

I think a 7.62x25 AR would be a fun plinker. It has a very flat trajectory for out to 100 yards but you should still be able to use it in a pistol only range (like most indoor ranges).

I did mean the 7.62x25 not the 7.62x39, I am well aware of the difference in calibers. The reason I'm having a hard time making a decision is the price in ammo, I missed the band wagon with 5.45x39 ammo. The 7.62x39 is still cheap, I decide to go with an upper from Ron Williams in 7.62x25. Out to about a 100 yards it still has good stopping power, 1800fsp to 2000fsp out of a 10.5" barrel. You can also load it with 90gr .308 bullets and archive sub sonic rounds good to 200 yds. A neat little caliber if you ask me. I was just wanting hear guys opinions on on this round in an AR 15. Does anyone have any experience with these uppers?

Oh, yeah my AR of choice the 6.5 grendel which has been on order from Alexander Arms for 7 months. I guess the main reason I made this post was to discussion the pros and cons of the 7.62x25 in an AR 10.5" or 16" barrel vs a 5.45x39 16" AR.

"gramer coaches please don't responed"

Considering this is a public forum about something constantly under attack, I don't think it's too much to ask that you spend 5 seconds making your posts halfway readable.

Whether it's ignorance or laziness, all typing in broken english does is play to stereotypes and turn off potential new shooters. How about we leave the illiteracy to the hope & change types?
