Swede Mauser ammo
I acquired a Swede Mauser carbine, that had been sporterized by a gunsmith last year. I just love this caliber. Had it checked over by my gunsmith and started shooting it last summer. Since I no longer reload, factory ammo is pretty expensive these days as you all know. I just purchased some Pri Partisan ammo for $13.00 box online for practice ammo, and would like to know of others' experience with this ammo. Has anyone used this 139gr SP stuff for deer hunting? Last season I took a nice doe with the PMC Silverline stuff at only 50yds with a bang flop. PMC was the only stuff available at the gunshop I frequent, and Walmart didn't carry anything at all. Are there any other brands besides the Privi Partisan that I should be looking at for economy but decent ammo? Thanks in advance.

At $40+ a box for that stuff, not likely, but thanks. For some reason, 6.5x55 is not popular in Wyoming, or folks are just reloading it. Saw a silver box of Winchester yesterday for $32.00....

OK, I'm coming around. Still got some RL22, and some IMR4064. Don't have any recipes for RL22 for that caliber in my books though. Only saved 2 books.

Huntress that recipe I gave ya is very mild and is designed for Swede military rifles. Seating depth is critical, I have an OAL of 3.150, that works in my throats. Priv partisan is mil spec swede ball, you can use their OAL if you want. If you seat deeper than 3.150, drop to 42 and see. If you use US made brass, again, drop to 42 and see. I get 2580 out of an M41B with the 26" barrel.
You may want to try 40gr and work up from there in your rifle. I suggested game Kings because they are interchangeable with the Scenars and Match Kings I use. You may al,so want to experiment with 160 Hornady RNs. WilditsfunAlaska ™ |

My Swede is the infantry rifle 29 inch barrel...
And I don't shoot it all that much, because...well, size does matter. Sweet shooter, mild recoil. Bought 100 rnds Rem brass and haven't been through all of it once yet. And to give you an idea of the age, rifle dated 1917, and my reloading dies are from Herter's! But they do work. Last loading was the Speer 140gr and IMR 4320. Right on the money with the GI sights at 400 yards! I have a pound of RL 22 sitting on the shelf (based on Wild's praises), and the next time I do a run of 6.5, I'll try some out.

The best surplus 6.5x55 currently available is this stuff right here:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...?Item=93840404 It's 1987 production sniper rounds. Not cheap, not reloadable, but you'll spend a lot of money and a lot of time making better ones. He's not the only one selling this, just the first one I found and a good vendor. rr2241tx |
