Im in the same boat as you. I tried a walking and engaging and I did horrible, even though the target was about 4x4..Its a great ability though for HD application if the AR is your choice. I think you motivated me to cut up some silhouettes out of card board to use.

Magog
When I saw the first video, I was trying to figure out why the guy in the tan pants with the slung rifle kept pointing a silver pistol at him, DOH... then I saw it was a video cam.
My knees are way to shot to do the shoot and scoot stuff nowadays. But they look like they're having fun.

I like shooting practical pistol matches. I have wanted to get into 3 gun for a while but I'm always at work when one is held...
The guys in the video might call what they are doing, practice. I call it tempting fate.

Airsoft or Paintball. The ranges at which you can accurately shoot while moving are about the same with airsoft/paintball as they are with firearms.
Just remember that cover for airsoft/paintball = concealment for firearms. Jimro

So for sporting purposes I would recommend getting involved in some action shooting competitions, 3 gun, Multi Gun, and such. Even Cowboy Action shooting. You'll learn from others how to do it right and safe.

I hate to burst your bubble, but if the end of the world came, running and shooting small arms just isn't going to cut it!

well, first, not one magazine change in that drill
No barricade or cover in that drill either. A novice making that little left u-turn around the cone could easily cover and possibly take out the isntructors.... be very careful when you attend these events. Not everyone is safety oriented. I have seen people jump out of a firing line while hot to bat at a bee that had landed on them, with their weapon. |

Oh yeah. I got wife and family I need to take care of.
But in the past this is why the puritans were such bad asses. they drilled all the time. Every chance they had they drilled. they were all expert fighters. Small in number they held their own vs much larger armies. There whole idea is you can never rest, you can never allow evil to rest so drill drill drill! It is all in the mind. you see it, and make it happen. And it looks fun... |

oh yeah, all summer long. mostly just cuz it's fun though. parctice mags changes, switching to sidearm and then back. differernt ranges, usually only out to about 80 yards though. this summer i might put one out to about 150 yards. i think it helped me. when i first started doing this, i noticed my breathing was all over the place, my heart was racing, i couldn't even hit the target at 40 yards half the time. after a while, i didn't notice my heart pounding, atleast it wasn't as much of a distraction, i could concentrate through hard breathing. my shots were all over the target still, but atleast on target and in groups. then i started getting groups more a COM. then i turned it into a competition with myself. but like i said it was all just fun. just something different to do.

I think the end of the world statement was a joke..at least im hoping
However, it would be beneficial to be able to shoot on the move, with or without the side arm. Its difficult and it makes for a good time |

I found that deer hunting was Infantry training. I hunted about 10 years before I joined, and then went to FT Benning, where 80%+ of the instruction is outdoor and regardless of weather, snow, rain, or heat. Got all three while there.
You can run and gun, but most of the tactics of being outdoors on a two way live fire range aren't being practiced. LIVE in the woods, you have to have security up every minute, light and noise discipline, a continuous source of food and water, ammo resupply, and communications to those who do that. Moving overland means map reading skills and having a good reason to do it. Plus, understanding camo and tactical movement. The average hunter is usually one big noisy, smelly, brightly colored non resident out there, and it's a wonder we have the success rate we do. Most of what the service teaches are avoidance measures, don't be seen, heard, smelled. Looking for trouble when you don't need to increases risk and the possibility of death - precisely what is meant to be avoided. But, some people only practice the cool stuff you only need to do in the worst case, not the boring stuff that prevents it. Home invasion vs. good sense prevention, we get shoot em up on the net, not what it takes to keep it from happening. This is a fantasy, the real world is one step beyond the keyboard. |
